Taiwan Trademark Search Information
Every trademark decision should be supported by a thorough trademark search. The Taiwan Intellectual Property Office provides a great search interface in both English and Chinese. You can search in yourself or you can hire us to do it for you.
How to do a Taiwan Trademark Search
You can search for words, sounds, 3D shapes, colors, holograms, and motions.
Searching for exact matches of a word trademark is straightforward. Just put in the word you would like to protect in the “text” search field. You can also narrow down your search by relevant trademark classes.
You can also narrow the search for Applied(Live), Applied(Dead), Registered(Live), Registered(Dead) and Rejected trademarks.
You also need to search for similar trademarks because TIPO will reject if they think it is too similar to another trademark. Knowing what is similar takes experience and research.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can register a trademark in Taiwan?
Any individual, corporation or legal entity may apply to register a trademark in Taiwan. Foreigners can apply to register a mark in Taiwan if they are from a country which is a WTO member or a jurisdiction that protects trademarks on a reciprocal basis with Taiwan. If you or your company is not domiciled or established in Taiwan you must appoint a trademark agent (like MUSA) to register your trademark.
Since private people can register a trademark, if you are setting up a company in Taiwan, you can register the Taiwanese trademark now and later when the company is fully registered, transfer ownership to the new entity. That way your trademark is secure.
How long does it take to register a trademark?
Take Taiwan for example, the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) usually approves a trademark application within eight to ten months from the filing date. The duration varies in all countries.
Will you help monitor after trademarks are approved?
Yes, we do, which is part of our Trademark Watch service. We will monitor for other trademarks for similarities in:
- Word meanings, not limited to identical or similar word matches
- Phonetic matches—beyond just identical or similar word and character matches based on visual similarities, our linguists are also able to recognize phonetic (sound) matches
- Visual resemblance of images
- The class and relationship of goods and services through analysis.
